Open Source Initiatives & The Open Source Lab
Connecting academic learning with production industry software engineering through real-world open-source contributions, hands-on internships, hardware prototyping, and community leadership across Tamil Nadu.
The Open Source Lab at Kongu Engineering College
Established as an academic-industry partnership in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu Java User Group (TNJUG) and Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Kongu Engineering College, the Open Source Lab provides students with a transformative software engineering environment.
Initiated by Rohan J and guided by dedicated industry architects and faculty leaders, students build production-grade open-source platforms, intern at cutting-edge tech firms, engage with district administration, and mentor peer developers across the state.

The 6-Phase Learning Roadmap
A progressive software engineering pathway combining intensive technical bootcamps, architectural team structures, remote open-source workflows, and real-world internships.
Foundation & Java Core
Intensive training in modern semantic HTML, CSS layouts, Java OOP principles, exception handling, data structures, and project directory structuring.
Team Domains & Architecture
Advanced DSA, Git version control, Docker containerization, DBMS design seminars, and domain-specialized teams (DevOps, Frontend, Backend, Full Stack).
OSS & Industry Internships
Independent remote open-source development on TNEBooks, daily morning peer-teaching sessions, and industry internships in Chennai, Trichy, Ramanathapuram, and Tirunelveli.
Phase 3 Internship Cohorts
Open Source Projects
Explore production codebases, developer libraries, educational tools, and system engineering labs created and maintained by the TNJUG community.
Open-source digital education platform providing accessible, structured learning resources for students and teachers across Tamil Nadu, field-validated across 100 schools.
A lightweight, fluent Java library for building structured SQL queries cleanly without runtime overhead, presented at the EPAM Systems Java AI Meetup.
Student-driven innovation and prototyping space at Kongu Engineering College bridging hardware, electronics, CAN protocol, and Java systems engineering.
Field Milestones & Community Engagement
From presentations to District Collectors to live conference talks, the Open Source Lab directly connects student engineers with governance and industry.

Ramanathapuram District Collector
Presented TNEBooks to Thiru. M. Sivaguru Prabhakaran, I.A.S., securing official permission to deploy digital educational materials across 50 government and 50 aided schools.

EPAM Systems Java AI Meetup
Student developers Keerthana Rajendran and Sindhu Dhanashekaran presented the SQLBuilder open-source project to industry engineers, earning the Book of Appreciation.

HackFusion & Erode Collector
Demonstrated TNEBooks to Thiru. S. Kandasamy, IAS (Erode District Collector) at VETIAS, and showcased the initiative to Samir Kamerkar (Engineering Director at Canonical) at TOSS 2026.

Grassroots Classroom Outreach
Fieldwork at Government Model School, Thinaikulam Govt School, and Kongu Matric HSS (Uthukuli), gathering feedback directly from educators and mentoring high-school students.

Green Lab Establishment
Created a dedicated hardware & prototyping lab at Kongu Engineering College under the guidance of Ram Prakash to build embedded CAN systems and hardware-software prototypes.
